The Swedish
national team has eleven matches in the World
Cup, with the best result in those who stayed at home in 1958 when it was
beaten in the final by Pelé Brazil. Italy counts eighteen - it did not play
only in 1930 and 1958 - with four wins. Sweden does not contest a World Cup
from 2006.
There are 23 previous matches
between Italy and Sweden in all competitions. The last
challenge between Italy and Sweden dates back to the Euro 2016. Sweden has not
beat Italy since 1998 (1-0 in friendly at Göteborg): four blue wins and a draw
since then.
Italy and Sweden have never been challenged in
qualifying races at the World Cup -
two crossings in the final stages of the World Cup: Scandinavian victory in
1950 and Italian success in 1970. The Azzurri disputed for the second time a tie
for access to the final phase of the World Cup: in 1997 they overtook Russia,
breaking the pass for France 1998.
